Seasonal Australian produce on a wooden table

Seasons · states

What is in season when you visit

What produce is in season when you visit depends on the state and the month. Summer is stone fruit and mangoes in the north and east; autumn is apples, grapes, and cool-climate harvests; winter is citrus and southern shellfish; spring is asparagus and early berries. Treat this as a high-level calendar.

Editorial guide

This is an editorial food guide, not a review platform. We do not invent restaurant scores, “best of” rankings, or paid placements unless a commercial relationship is disclosed. Hours, menus, and allergen information change — confirm with the venue. Nothing here is health or medical advice.

Australian produce is state-shaped. A mango week in Queensland is not an apple week in Tasmania. Use this page as a planning sketch, then ask a market stall.

Seasonal Australian produce on a wooden table

High-level calendar

Summer (December–February). Stone fruit in the south-east — peaches, nectarines, cherries in cooler pockets. Mangoes in Queensland and the north. Berries in Tasmania and highland pockets. Holiday seafood demand on every coast. Outdoor tables in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Autumn (March–May). Apples and pears. Grape harvest across many wine regions. Late tomatoes and figs in warm pockets. A good Adelaide market month for a visitor who missed summer fruit.

Winter (June–August). Citrus in many states. Brassicas. Southern shellfish and oyster months that venues will describe more precisely than a national blog should. Hobart is cold and produce-led. Melbourne still does coffee.

Spring (September–November). Asparagus. Early berries. Spring lamb on many Modern Australian menus. Still-cool southern produce. A useful Sydney walking season.

How to use a stall conversation

Ask what grew nearby and when it was picked. That is more useful than a blog list from last year. See what to look for at farmers’ markets. We will not invent a farm ranking or a nutrient claim.

Pair produce with a city

  • Adelaide — Central Market plus one wine region.
  • Melbourne — Queen Victoria Market morning, then one spine.
  • Hobart — Salamanca if Saturday.
  • Sydney — growers’ markets and the fish market as separate plans.

How to use this page

  1. Note the month and the state.
  2. Open the city guide you will actually stand in.
  3. Confirm with a stall.
  4. Treat dietary pages as travel tips, not medical advice.

State sketches you can actually use

NSW / Sydney. Estuary oysters, summer stone fruit in inland districts, Hunter harvest in autumn. Walk a precinct after the stall — Sydney.

Victoria / Melbourne. Cooler south-east fruit, apples, berries in highland pockets, Yarra harvest. Melbourne is still a coffee city in winter.

Queensland. Mangoes, tropical fruit, subtropical outdoor tables. Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

South Australia. Wine-country fruit and a southern seafood register. Adelaide Central Market.

Western Australia. Indian Ocean seafood and a distinct harvest calendar. Perth.

Tasmania. Cool-climate fruit, berries, cheese, southern seafood. Hobart.

None of those sketches is a farm forecast. Ask the stall.

What this calendar is not

It is not a scientific harvest model. It is not a nutrient table. It is not a farm ranking. It is a travel sketch so you know whether to hope for mangoes or apples. Ask a market stall. Read the longer calendar article.

Modern Australian menus often track this sketch. Seafood tracks coasts more than months. Wine regions track harvest in autumn. Pair them. Confirm the venue. This is not health advice.
