The grandstands and track at Caulfield Racecourse, Melbourne

As always on this site, this is geography, not a ranking. Here is what's on, where it is, and the rules at the gate.

What food is at the Caulfield Cup?

The MRC names three Melbourne vendors in GA Food Lane for the 2026 Carnival:

  • Mr Miyagi
  • Madeline's
  • EBBY Chicken

The MRC's description promises "exclusive Carnival dishes and cocktails". It hasn't published menus or prices, so we won't guess either. Food Lane sits in the General Admission Carnival precinct near the Main Stage, inside Gate 21.

Can you bring food to the Caulfield Cup?

Yes, light snacks. The MRC says "light snacks may be brought into the racecourse". A full esky picnic is a different thing. If you're bringing more than a snack, check with the MRC on 1300 GO RACE (1300 467 223).

Can you bring drinks to the Caulfield Cup?

No alcohol, and no packaged drinks. Guests may not bring alcoholic drinks or any commercially packaged drinks, including water, soft drink and juice in bottles, cans or other containers, unless required for infants. Bring an empty, non-glass bottle and refill it at any bar.

What food is in the Members' Reserve?

The MRC lists several Members' venues. The 1876 bar now has a Pub Menu. The Medallion Bar overlooks the mounting yard, and the Moët & Chandon Champagne Bar is on the Members' Front Lawn. The club also lists $8.50 Carlton Draught schooners for Members only under its "Buck The Cost" pricing. Members can redeem MRC Reward Points on food and drink.

Is hospitality still available on Cup Day?

No. The MRC lists all Cup Day hospitality as sold out. That includes Tulloch Corner, the Black Caviar Restaurant, the Promenade Restaurant and The Piano Room. Some venues show limited availability on other Carnival days, such as Beverly Caulfield Social.

Timing your meal around the races (AEDT)

Gates open at 10:30am and the first race is at 12:15pm. The Thousand Guineas is at 3:45pm and the Caulfield Cup at 5:15pm. Queues peak in the hour before the Cup, so eat early afternoon. Cassö plays the Main Stage after the last at 5:50pm, so plan a second meal if you're staying on.

Eating in Caulfield before or after

Caulfield Racecourse sits directly outside Caulfield Station. That makes it easy to eat in the city or around Melbourne before or after the races. For laneways, cuisines and neighbourhoods, start with our Melbourne guide. For the race itself, including recent winners, see this Caulfield Cup race guide. Book ahead: Cup night is a busy Saturday across the city.

Food and the 150th Caulfield Cup

This is the 150th running of the Caulfield Cup, first run in 1879, and the MRC has lifted prize money to a record $6 million (Racing.com). Food at the track has changed a lot since the early meetings. Bringing well-known Melbourne restaurants into General Admission is a recent trend at the big carnivals. If you want a sit-down trackside meal, you needed to book a hospitality package months ahead. Those are listed as sold out for Cup Day. For a Members' option, the MRC lists the 1876 Pub Menu. The MRC notes accepted ID rules apply at every bar, so bring photo ID if you look under 25.

Tips for eating well on Cup Day

Eat a proper breakfast before you travel. Plan your main meal for early afternoon, before the queues build ahead of the Cup. Refill your water bottle each time you pass a bar.
